More than a month: Upward mobility for women transcends far beyond March, Philadelphia

As we check the final days of March and Women’s History Month off the calendar, let’s remember that Philadelphia organizations celebrate women’s empowerment all-year round.

Food & Drink | Brews & Taboos Block Party at Devil’s Den

Drink some beer and quench your thirst for knowledge at this fundraiser that highlights April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Featuring local brews at Women Organized Against Rape’s first certified safe bar, forget everything you know about the taboos and myths surrounding sexual violence and alcohol because they are about to be debunked. | April 7. 2-5pm. $15-$20. Awards | 2019 Bridge of Courage Reception and Silent Auction

Join Women Organized Against Rape (WOAR) as they honor those actively working to eliminate sexual violence. Comedy | Chelsea Handler’s Sit-Down Comedy Tour

After taking a hiatus from her onscreen presence for a life of activism, Handler will be bringing the laughs once more as she embarks on a nationwide comedy tour. Learn | Philadelphia Autism Conference with Dr. Temple Grandin

Competition | Over The Hop: Ladies Arm Wrestling

Bring it to the ring at this competition to benefit the Philadelphia chapter of Pink Boots Society, which empowers women professionals in the beer industry, and Philly Loves Beer. Music | Patti Smith

The powerhouse herself will be in Philly to rock our worlds and remind us that she’s still the biggest badass out there. Smith shook up the rock n’ roll scene in the 1970s with her potent poetry and continues to be a feminist icon. | April 29. $55-$75.

Fundraiser | Sojourner Truth Walk: Celebrating Girls’ & Women’s Leadership

Bring the whole family to walk in honor of the girls and women you admire. Blank signs will be provided at this event so that you can write down the name of who you are walking for. All funds raised will be given to Camp Sojourner, Girls’ Leadership Camp, which reinforces leadership, team-building, creativity and nature. | May 4. 9:30am-1:30pm. $10-$25. Food & Drink | Bold Women and Beer Festival

Make history by attending Philadelphia’s first women-centered beer festival. Women beer professionals will be showing off their brew skills alongside pours from over 30 breweries, food trucks and live entertainment to supplement your appetite. Fundraiser | Reach & Raise: Philadelphia

Namaste! Living Beyond Breast Cancer will host this accessible, all-level yoga class to bring attention to those affected by breast cancer. No matter how you identify, you are welcome to join the movement.
