Pride picks: Raise awareness and have a little fun in the process as we celebrate Pride for all

For the next two weeks get ready to celebrate all things Pride.

From LGBT awareness to a shoutout for Philadelphia’s disabled community, here’s our choice picks to ensure you take full advantage of the opportunity to celebrate both.

Philly Pride Block Party

The official kickoff to a monster weekend. Also, if you plan to attend Sunday’s Pride Parade and Festival, you can pick up your wristband here early and receive a discounted price on it. The big upside is that going to this locks you into Sunday and you don’t have to deal with the drama and the lines at Penn’s Landing on Sunday. Win-win. | June 8, 6-11pm. 12th and Locust Sts.

William Way Homecoming

This event honors the leaders in the LGBT community. Come and enjoy live entertainment, cocktails and small bites. There’ll even be a silent auction where you can take home some fabulous stuff. | June 8, 5:30-7:30pm. 1315 Spruce St. eventbrite.com/e/william-way-homecoming

Philly Pride Run 5k

For the third year in a row, runners will flock to the Gayborhood for this run that covers the parade route. Don’t feel like running out a full 5k? All good, as organizers have made sure that there’s no excuse not to throw on some shorts and sneakers with the original 1.5 miler fun run also an option. | June 9. Registration is at 9am; race kicks off at 10am. 12th and Locust Sts. runtheday.com

Pride Day Parade and Festival

The main event celebrating 30 years in Philadelphia will kick off once again at 13th and Locust. The parade will funnel its way down to Penn’s Landing, the site of the daylong Pride Festival. Plan for the parade to take a while as this will be about a two-hour long snake crawl to the party of all parties. See you there, Philly. | June 9, 11:30am. $15. 13th and Locust Sts.

Disability Pride Flag Kickoff

Oh, you thought Pride Week was over just because of the big ass parade on Sunday? Wrong, wrong. Come for poetry, live music, discussion and, of course, the raising of the Disability Pride flag in Center City. | June 10, 4:30-6:30pm. 1401 John F. Kennedy Blvd. eventbrite.com/e/disability-pride-flag-raising

Arts in the Courtyard

It is as it sounds. Head to the courtyard at City Hall for a collection of arts and crafts, vendors selling their art in addition to a number of food trucks and live music. This one lasts for most of the day so don’t feel rushed to check out some great works from local artists. | June 11, 11am-6pm. Free. 1401 John F. Kennedy Blvd.

Disability Pride Happy Hour

Enjoy food and drinks on special for three full hours on a summer Friday. Don’t think there’s much more we need to say about this one. At all. | June 14, 5-8pm. Free entry. 1150 Filbert St.

Disability Pride Parade and Celebration

The week culminates in this daylong celebration. It’s also a day to get people to think about disabled, end all the weird stigmas that encompass disability and to promote diversity across humanity. Sounds like a fantastic reason to party to us. | June 15, 10am. Parade, 11 am. Celebration and festival at City Hall, 12-4pm. National Constitution Center, 525 Arch St.
